Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in South Caucasus will award 10 scholarships (the full tuition fee  for Georgian citizens and plus living costs for 5 citizens from other EaP countries) to the highest-ranking students of the Master’s programme in European Studies of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University during the autumn semester of the academic year of 2020-2021. The scholarship recipients (5 citizens of Georgia and 5 citizens of other Eastern Partnership countries) will be selected based on the results of the university entrance exams and the studies of the first ten in ranking in autumn semester will be fully funded. The extension of the scholarship scheme will be merits-based during the next semesters.

The Scholarship allocation details and other cooperation issues were discussed during the meeting with the TSU Rector – George Sharvashidze, the Regional Director of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung – Thomas Schrapel and the Director of the TSU Institute for European Studies – Nino Lapiashvili

TSU Institute for European Studies counts many years of successful and valuable cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. “ The striking and much needed scholarship scheme established by KAD for our Master’s students does emphasize the relevance and the high importance of teaching and studying European Studies in the country as well as in the Eastern Partnership region where TSU is a leader already for more than a decade. On the one hand, this action is a significant contribution to the education sector in Georgia aimed at ameliorating the negative impact of the COVID-19 crisis,” – highlighted  Nino Lapiashvili in her statement.

According to Thomas Schrapel, the Regional Director of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung - one of the main priorities of the foundation is to help Georgia get even closer to the European Union. “ We plan to further expand Georgia’s rapprochement with the European Union and express our support to the English-taught Master’s programme in European Studies of the TSU Institute for European Studies. With this scholarship programme we believe that we can help not only the students from Georgia and Eastern Partnership Countries but also the whole county to keep moving towards the European Union,” – said Thomas Schrapel

The fully English-taught interdisciplinary Master’s programme in European Studies of the TSU Institute for European Studies was established in 2007 with the support of the European Commission and stands as a showpiece of academic excellence  reckoning already it’s 13 years of successful existence; this does not count only to the IES alumni who are holding the high and responsible positions in the public offices as well as the private sector, but also to the highly professional and dedicated academic and administrative staff, resource-rich library, internship opportunities, and friendly atmosphere, not to forget about 100 per cent employment rate of its graduates.
